The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) yesterday successfully coordinated a multi-stage medical evacuation involving three beneficiaries under the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board who required urgent medical attention in Lusaka.
Two of the beneficiaries were evacuated from Mufulira while the third patient was picked up from Mansa District. The two patients from Mufulira were both on oxygen support.
The operation began with the ground response team coordinating patient movements from different locations. In Ndola, The ZFDS ambulance was driven by Mr. Joshua Savluka who proceeded to Mufulira to pick up the two patients. Throughout the journey back to Ndola, paramedic Bwalya Chisanga closely monitored the patients to ensure their conditions remained stable while on oxygen support.
Upon arrival at Zuze Air Force Base in Ndola, the patients were carefully transferred from the ambulance to the awaiting ZFDS aircraft under the supervision of paramedics Susan Banda and Nelly Njamba. Captain Chanda Mumpangwe and Co-pilot Elvis Kite then departed for Mansa to pick up the third beneficiary.
After safely boarding the patient in Mansa, the aircraft proceeded to Lusaka. During the flight, the medical crew maintained continuous patient monitoring and kept Lusaka International Hospital updated on the patients’ conditions to ensure preparedness upon arrival.
The aircraft later landed safely in Lusaka where the receiving medical team was already on standby. All three patients were successfully handed over for further medical management.
ZFDS remains committed to delivering timely emergency medical evacuation services and ensuring access to specialized healthcare for patients across the country.
