More than 65 women have been screened for cervical cancer, while 25 men have undergone Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) within the first two days of a week-long medical outreach by the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) in Senga Hill District.
The ZFDS medical team set up camp at Mambwe Mission Hospital on Monday and Mpande Rural Health Centre on Tuesday, recording a significant turnout from residents eager to access specialised services.
In just two days, more than 300 patients benefited from general medical screenings across the two facilities.
Cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women in Zambia. During the screenings, clinicians identified several cases requiring urgent surgical intervention. At Mpande, demand more than doubled on the second day, leading to referrals for procedures to remove abnormal tissue and manage cases of cervical prolapse.
Uptake for VMMC services was equally strong, with all participants on the second day aged 15 years and above — a key demographic in Zambia’s national HIV prevention strategy.
Laboratory teams confirmed 65 malaria cases, while dental teams conducted over 200 procedures, highlighting the wide range of services being accessed by the community.
The outreach programme is ongoing and is expected to conclude on Sunday.
