The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has successfully repatriated two Workers’ Compensation beneficiaries from Lusaka to their respective homes in Senanga District, Western Province, and Mansa District, Luapula Province, following successful specialised treatment at the International Hospital of Zambia.

The patients, aged 30 and 36, had both sustained spinal injuries. The 30-year-old patient was living with quadriplegia resulting from a spinal injury, while the 36-year-old patient had sustained a spinal injury following a road traffic accident. Following their discharge from hospital, ZFDS coordinated their safe aeromedical transfer back to their communities.

The cross-province repatriation mission was conducted using two ZFDS fixed-wing aircraft. Aircraft registration 9J-AGC was piloted by Siphosami Zulu with Co-pilot Elvis Kite, while aircraft registration 9J-FDS was commanded by Director of Aviation Services Lasford Manchishi and Deputy Director of Aviation Services Patrick Kawanu.

The aircraft departed ZFDS Headquarters in Ndola and proceeded to the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Base in Lusaka, where the patients were handed over by the ambulance team to the ZFDS medical crew. Following careful boarding procedures and pre-flight preparations, the aircraft departed for their respective destinations.

Throughout the flights, ZFDS paramedics Prince Mwewa and Suzen Banda provided continuous in-flight medical care, ensuring that both patients remained safe, stable, and comfortable during the journey.

Aircraft 9J-AGC landed at Mongu Airport,Simultaneously, aircraft 9J-FDS landed at Mansa Airport. This mission underscores the ZFDS unwavering commitment to delivering seamless aeromedical transport services and ensuring that patients can safely return home after receiving specialised medical care, regardless of distance.
