The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has successfully repatriated a Workers’ Compensation beneficiary from Lusaka to Mufulira following his successful treatment and discharge from the International Hospital of Zambia (IHZ).
The 74-year-old patient, who is living with Stage 3 pneumoconiosis, had been receiving specialised medical care at IHZ. Following a comprehensive medical assessment, he was certified medically stable and fit to travel home, where he will continue his recovery and attend scheduled follow-up care.
The repatriation was undertaken at the request of the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board as part of its commitment to ensuring beneficiaries are safely returned to their communities after receiving specialised treatment.
ZFDS coordinated both the air and ground medical evacuation, ensuring the patient travelled safely and comfortably under the continuous care of a trained medical team throughout the flight and subsequent ambulance transfer to Mufulira.
This successful mission highlights the strong partnership between the Zambia Flying Doctor Service and the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board in delivering timely, compassionate, and patient-centred medical transport services. Together, the two institutions remain committed to ensuring beneficiaries have access to specialised healthcare while promoting continuity of care beyond hospital discharge.
