The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) provided on-site medical services to hundreds of attendees during the 2026 Ncwala Traditional Ceremony held in Chipata District, Eastern province.
The medical team set up camp just outside the main arena to ensure easy access to health services for the large number of people who gathered for this year’s event.
The 2026 Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony was officiated by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, who was accompanied by senior Government officials and delegates from Malawi, led by Malawian Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah,SC.
ZFDS Senior Medical Officer and Team Lead for the outreach, Dr. Jonathan Masalo, revealed that the team screened over 455 people during the ceremony. He noted that the most common conditions recorded were dermatological cases, diarrhoeal diseases, and respiratory infections.
In collaboration with Children International Zambia, (CIZ) ZFDS also distributed hygiene kits to attendees at the arena as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare.
The Nc’wala Ceremony is one of Zambia’s most significant traditional ceremonies, celebrated annually by the Ngoni people in the Eastern Province.
By participating in events such as Nc’wala, ZFDS not only provides essential services but the act also demonstrates commitment to supporting communities during important national and cultural ceremonies.
