The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS), through its Ng’anga Bilonda team, recently extended essential Child Health Week services to communities in Nchelenge District, including those under the leadership of Sub-Chief Mwepya in Chief Mwepya’s area.
The outreach was conducted from Kabuta Rural Health Centre, a zonal facility supporting 13 outreach posts, enabling families in surrounding communities to access essential healthcare services closer to home.
The team was led by Sister Margret Mbuzi, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), and comprised Midwives Musanda Mwape and Elvis Chomba, with Pethias Chibesa providing transport support and ensuring the team safely reached the various outreach points.
Throughout the outreach, the team delivered an integrated package of preventive, child health and maternal healthcare services, including:
* Deworming of children aged 12–59 months.
* Catch-up immunisation for children who had missed scheduled vaccinations.
* Nutrition assessments.
* Child growth monitoring.
* Antenatal care for expectant mothers.
* Family planning services.
* Postnatal care for mothers.
* Cervical cancer screening for women.
Through such initiatives, ZFDS continues to demonstrate its commitment to bringing essential healthcare services closer to underserved communities, strengthening preventive healthcare and improving access to quality maternal and child health services.
