The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has launched a cholera sensitisation campaign in Ndola, beginning with a community outreach exercise in Nkwazi Township aimed at strengthening cholera prevention ahead of the anticipated rainy season.
The exercise, which kicked off at James Lawless facilities, was led by ZFDS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. George Ng’uni, and attended by Copperbelt Provincial Health Director, Dr. Charles Mwinuna; Ndola District Commissioner, Ms. Precious Njekwa; and Ndola City Mayor, His Worship Kennedy Kasaba, alongside ZFDS members of staff and representatives of cooperating partners. The initiative received support from Children International Zambia (CIZ) and Neelkanth Lime, in support of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to prevent cholera outbreaks.
As the country prepares for the rainy season, when the risk of cholera outbreaks can increase, the Ministry of Health, through ZFDS, is working with cooperating partners to promote preventive measures and raise awareness about safe water, proper sanitation and good hygiene practices.
During the exercise, the team moved around Nkwazi Township, distributing chlorine and soap to households, treating household water points with chlorine, and applying lime to pit latrines to promote improved sanitation and help reduce the risk of cholera transmission.
The Ministry of Health, through the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS), remains committed to the national fight against cholera through community outreach and preventive interventions. The campaign is expected to extend to Masala, Chipulukusu and Sakania, promoting safe water, proper sanitation and good hygiene practices.
At ZFDS we continue to promote clean health practices in all we do.
