Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has evacuated a 64 year old patient from Mansa to Lusaka, after clinicians determined that his condition required specialist intervention.
The patient, who is also being treated for other underlying medical conditions needed advanced diagnostic investigations that could not be performed at the referring facility.
The evacuation was set in motion after Dr Markford Chipili, the Hospital Medical Superintendent, formally requested the aeromedical mission by ZFDS through the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The request was reviewed and approved by Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, Permanent Secretary (PS) Technical Services at (MOH).
ZFDS Director Aviation Services Lasford Manchishi, alongside Co-Pilot Chanda Mumpangwe flew the aircraft.
Paramedics Sampa Chibwe and Philip Mwewa were on board to ensure the patient was continuously monitoring and cared throughout the flight.
The aircraft departed Ndola at 09:54 hours, landing in Mansa at 10:32 hours.
After patient preparation and transfer from the referring facility, the team departed Mansa Airport at 15:10 hours , touching down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport - ZAF base in Lusaka at 16:50 hours.
A University Teaching Hospital (UTH) ambulance received the patient and transport him for onward specialist care. We wish the patient a speedy recovery.
