The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has successfully conducted an emergency aeromedical evacuation of three patients under the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB), transporting them from Mufulira to Lusaka for advanced specialized medical care.
All three patients were oxygen-dependent and required continuous medical support throughout the transfer. The mission commenced with a ZFDS ground ambulance transporting the patients from Mufulira to ZFDS Headquarters where they were safely transferred onto ZFDS aircraft 9J-FDS.
The aircraft was piloted by Captain Siphosami Zulu, assisted by Co-pilot Chanda Mumpangwe. On board, ZFDS medical personnel Beatrice Chikumbi and Mwiza Siloka provided continuous monitoring and medical care, ensuring the patients remained stable and comfortable throughout the flight.
Upon arrival, the aircraft landed safely at the ZAF Base, Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka. The patients were then transferred by ambulance to the International Hospital of Zambia (Fairview), where they were formally handed over to the receiving medical team for continued specialized treatment.
This successful mission underscores the Service’s unwavering commitment to providing timely, safe, and lifesaving aeromedical evacuation services while ensuring patients requiring specialized care are transported with the highest standards of professionalism and clinical excellence.
