The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS), today, 19th May 2026, successfully conducted a cross-province medical evacuation, airlifting two former miners and beneficiaries of the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board from the Copperbelt Province to Lusaka Province for routine medical check-ups.
The mission commenced in Ndola, where ZFDS ambulance registration GRZ 915 CK was deployed for the first leg of the operation, departing for Mufulira District to collect the patients. The patients were then transported to the ZFDS Zuze Airbase in preparation for the air transfer.
For the second leg of the mission, the ZFDS King Air Beechcraft 200, registration 9J-MMM, was deployed under the command of Deputy Director of Aviation Patrick Kawanu, alongside Co-Pilot Siposami Zulu. Paramedics Paul Siame and Bupe Chisanga provided in-flight medical monitoring, ensuring continuity of care throughout the journey.
The aircraft departed Ndola at 08:30 hours and landed safely at ZAF Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 09:10 hours. Upon arrival, the patients were handed over to the awaiting medical team from Lusaka International Hospital for continued treatment.
This mission underscores ZFDS’s vital role in bridging healthcare gaps across Zambia and ensuring patients receive timely specialised care regardless of distance.
