The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) today, April 27, 2026, successfully carried out a critical emergency air evacuation, transporting a differently abled pensioner from Livingstone to the International Hospital of Zambia in Lusaka for urgent specialized care.
The mission was executed with precision by the ZFDS flight crew and medical team aboard aircraft 9J-AGC.
Departing ZFDS Zuze Base in Ndola at 10:50 hours, the aircraft landed at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 12:45 before proceeding to Livingstone. Upon arrival at 15:30, paramedics swiftly secured the patient, departing at 15:55 and arriving in Lusaka at 17:25, where a waiting ambulance ensured seamless transfer to the hospital.
Conducted under the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB), the evacuation followed a formal request for urgent intervention. The patient, a long-term beneficiary living with paraplegia, required air transport due to the risks associated with road travel.
“This decision reflects our commitment to safeguarding the dignity and wellbeing of our most vulnerable beneficiaries,” said Mr. Maybin Nkolomba, WCFCB Director of Compliance and Compensation Services.
This mission highlights the power of coordinated care, as teams across regions came together to ensure timely, life-saving intervention.
