Today, a delegation from the National Heart Hospital(NHH) paid a courtesy visit to the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) team, marking a significant step toward strengthening collaboration in healthcare delivery.
The visiting team, led by NHH Senior Medical Superintendent, Dr. Chakwela Shumba, in the company of Dr. Agness Mtaja NHH Head Clinical Care, Mr James Titus Mtonga NHH Partnership Coordinator, Dr James Wilentz Board Chairperson International Cardiac Alliance and Mr Owen Robinson CEO International Cardiac Alliance was warmly received by ZFDS management and medical staff led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. George Ng’uni. The purpose of the visit was to foster closer ties between the two institutions, explore areas of cooperation, and appreciate the vital role ZFDS plays in providing emergency medical evacuations across Zambia.
During the engagement, ZFDS gave a detailed presentation on their operations, highlighting their work in fulfilling their mandate and conducting evacuations from remote areas to specialized facilities in urban centers.
The NHH team commended ZFDS’s commitment and resilience, particularly in handling complex cases that require urgent interventions, including cardiac emergencies. They noted that timely evacuations often make the difference between life and death, especially for patients requiring specialized heart care.
Discussions between the two institutions centered on enhancing referral systems, improving coordination during cardiac emergencies, and exploring opportunities for joint medical outreaches. Both parties acknowledged that collaboration would ensure faster, more efficient care for patients suffering from heart conditions, particularly those in rural areas.
The courtesy visit ended on a positive note, with a shared vision of improving access to specialized cardiac care and saving more lives through strategic partnership.
At ZFDS, we continue to reaffirm our commitment to working together to strengthen Zambia’s healthcare system.
