Today, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) received a significant donation of essential medical supplies and equipment from Children International Zambia(CIZ) Children International Zambia , reaffirming a shared commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for underserved and hard-to-reach communities across the country.
The donation, which includes prenatal vitamins, essential medicines, theatre supplies, medical consumables, and other healthcare items, will enhance service delivery at health facilities and support mobile medical outreaches, ensuring that more communities receive timely and quality healthcare services.
The handover ceremony was hosted by ZFDS Chief Executive Officer Dr. George Ng’uni and attended by the Copperbelt Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna, Children International Zambia Country Director Ms. Doris Chirwa, Mufulira District Health Director Dr. Abel Hamonga, Dr. Enock Mwanza, representing Ndola Teaching Hospital, Dr. Shadreck Ngosa, representing Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital, representatives from CIZ and the ZFDS and other distinguished stakeholders in the health sector.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Ng’uni expressed profound gratitude to Children International Zambia for the generous donation, describing it as a testament to the strong partnership between the two institutions and their shared commitment to improving health outcomes for vulnerable communities.
He further acknowledged the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, for his Government’s continued support in revitalising the Zambia Flying Doctor Service through the recapitalisation programme to a tune of K167 million. Dr. Ng’uni noted that the Government’s investment has transformed the institution through the procurement of a Bell 212 helicopter, a King Air B200 pressurised aircraft, operational vehicles, fuel bowsers, an ambulance, assorted aircraft spare parts, as well as the training of pilots and aircraft engineers. He stated that these investments, coupled with support from cooperating partners such as Children International Zambia, have significantly enhanced ZFDS’s capacity to deliver life-saving healthcare services to communities across the country.
Children International Zambia Country Director Ms. Doris Chirwa reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve healthcare access for women, children, and vulnerable populations, noting that strategic partnerships remain key to strengthening Zambia’s health system.
Copperbelt Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna commended the collaboration between Children International Zambia and ZFDS, describing it as a practical demonstration of the importance of partnerships in complementing Government efforts to achieve equitable and quality healthcare for all.
ZFDS remains grateful to the Government of the Republic of Zambia and its cooperating partners for their unwavering support as the institution continues to expand access to quality healthcare through its hospitals, aeromedical evacuations, and medical outreach programmes.
