In a continued demonstration of its national mandate to deliver critical emergency medical services, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has today 25th May,2026 successfully carried out a medical evacuation mission in Namwala District under the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board.
The mission involved the emergency transfer of a beneficiary in need of urgent specialist medical attention from Namwala to Lusaka. Upon arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (ZAF Base), the patient was safely handed over to a standby medical team from the International Hospital of Lusaka for further management.
The ZFDS aircraft 9J-FDS landed in Namwala at 10:25 hours to evacuate a beneficiary requiring medical attention. Following patient stabilization and preparation for transfer, the aircraft departed Namwala at 11:05 hours and safely landed in Lusaka at 12:00 hours.
Upon arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (ZAF Base), the patient was successfully handed over to a medical team from the International Hospital of Lusaka for further specialized management.
The mission was commanded by Director of Aviation Services Lasford Manchishi, with Co-pilot Chanda Mumpangwe assisting in the operation. Continuous in-flight medical care was provided by paramedics Nelly Njamba and Suzen Banda, who ensured the patient remained stable throughout the evacuation.
The successful operation highlights the importance of coordinated emergency response systems and the continued partnership between ZFDS and the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board in ensuring access to critical healthcare services, particularly for patients in remote parts of the country.
