In the village of Kulikumanga, Mkushi District, Central Province, a determined 62-year-old woman faced a challenge that would test her resilience.
What began as a small lesion on her right leg in July 2019 soon developed into a debilitating venous ulcer.
For six (6) long years, she battled this painful wound, desperately hoping for relief that never seemed to arrive.
Initially, she turned to traditional medicine, believing that natural remedies could heal her suffering. However, despite her tireless efforts and the countless treatments she tried, the ulcer only worsened, draining her hope and imposing significant limitations on her daily life.
“I thought I could heal it naturally,” she reflected. “But the pain kept reminding me that I needed help.”
Everything changed during a scheduled visit by the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) to the Mulungwe Health Post in her village.
When she arrived at the facility, she was warmly attended to by Clinician Thokodziwe Zulu, whose expertise provided the reassurance she had long sought.
For the first time in years, she felt truly seen and cared for after her wound was thoroughly cleaned and treated.
“I finally felt like there was a way forward,” she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy and relief.
In addition to the physical treatment, she received invaluable counseling on managing her health, empowering her to take charge of her recovery.
This experience serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking timely medical care and prioritizing one’s health by visiting healthcare facilities for regular check-ups and screenings.
Let her story inspire us all to take proactive steps towards better health and embrace the available healthcare resources.Together, we can foster a healthier and more resilient community.
